Through Sickness and in Health...

Welp, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Sequoyah woke up this morning with a terrible cold. The poor thing has been running on empty and working like crazy, it just finally caught up to him. I've been playing nurse all day trying to make him feel better with no success. He's just miserable. After he fell asleep on the hotel lobby couch, I figured I better put him to bed. He's out cold {pun intended}.  Hopefully he'll feel better after sleeping it off.
Although! Since today hasn't been the greatest and this post is kinda sad, I have something special for all my readers. A good ole' hotel story. A couple of days ago an elderly lady came up to the front desk with three photographs. She explained that she had been a loyal guest here for years and thought we would appreciate these pictures from when she stayed with us ten years ago. Honest. No joke. Here is just one of the three. ENJOY!

Our first Christmas was a quiet one. We had Christmas Eve dinner with some friends and their super cute kids. It was so good to have a home cooked meal and a family to be a part of for a few hours. Today, for Christmas, Sequoyah and I snuggled with Chinese food in front of our makeshift fireplace. It was warm and absolutely wonderful. We are wishing everyone down south a very merry Christmas, and we want you all to know that we are thinking of you and miss you. We wish we could be down there celebrating with you, but you gotta do what you gotta do! Good thing we love it here. Happy Holidays!

Game Night

Working up here has given us something we've always wanted...friends! We work with a lot of couples at the hotel and we were lucky enough to be invited over to Bryan and Pam's house yesterday. Sunday night is game night! I know this is a low quality picture, but it's all we got before the next round of intense Wacky Six started. There are five couples here who come every Sunday to hang out, eat pizza and play games. It was so great to get out of the house and socialize for once! We had such a blast, we lost track of time and didn't get to bed until about three a.m. That did wonders for waking up for my 7:30 a.m shift this morning. Oh, well. It was worth it. We are just loving it up here in Alaska!

The Alaskan Chill

Here are a few things that I have learned about Alaska so far:
| Number one, it is SO cold. It is a different kind of cold than anything I have ever experienced in Utah. The second you walk outside you can feel it hit you right in the bones. It takes your breath away almost immediately. It's wonderful. The air is so clean here.
| The tap water here is amazing! Better than any bottle of water at the store. I am constantly filling up my water bottle from our bathroom sink. Tastes just like Fiji Water.
| The sun sets very early here. It is completely dark by about 3:00 to 3:30 pm.
| Sequoyah took me to the most amazing coffee shop for chai. It's called Silverbow Bakery and it is to die for! So delish! Best chai tea I have ever tasted.
| Ravens and crows are all over the place. I think they are beautiful, but they annoy Sequoyah because they are can be loud. {ca-caw!}
| Eagles are also common. I saw one my first day here. I just wish I had the right kind of lens to take a picture. There was no way I would have been able to capture it with my 50 mm. {boooo}
| There are so many cool people here and I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet them. I love my job, and I love Alaska!

On The Job

It was our first day working. We were at the main hotel property today. Hopefully soon I will start working at Grandma's Feather Bed and Breakfast too. Since Sequoyah has worked here before, he got to train me. It was very busy today so I had to learn everything along the way. There were a lot of 'huh?'s and 'wait what?'s
Sequoyah was very patient with me and soon I was answering phones and making reservations. I got it down pat!
{"Thank you for calling Best Western Country Lane Inn, this is Aubin how may I help you?"}
I really like being able to work, finally being productive feels good. I am working tomorrow morning without Sequoyah, so we will see how that goes. {Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed I don't mess up too bad!}
I am looking forward to working and learning more. The best part is I get to spend everyday right next to the love of my life and best friend. Plus I can sneak peeks all day at his super cute bum! :)

Goodbye Lower 48!

Well, we finally made it to Juneau. After 12 hours of travelling and four layovers, we were finally home! Sequoyah showed me around and took me downtown. We first visited Mendenhall glacier, which was absolutely beautiful.

On the way there, I saw this sign which totally blew my mind! Watch out!

After the short trip to the glacier, we ran back to the hotel to put on a few more clothes. My toes were freezing! I'm trying to get used to the 18 degree weather. {brrrr!}
The trip to downtown was definitely my favorite part of the day. There were super cute stores that lined the icy streets and yummy fudge companies where we could satisfy Sequoyah's sweet tooth along the way.

So far, I love Juneau. I can see why Sequoyah fell in love with such a beautiful place. We are so happy here and I can't wait to keep exploring!
